Mary Jane Blige was born January 11, 1971 in the Bronx, New York. Blige, the daughter of a nurse and a jazz musician, is the second of four children. At the tender age of five, Bilge's father abandoned the family after gaining knowledge that his daughter Blige was molested by a family member. Shortly after, Blige's family uprooted from there home in the Bronx and landed in Richmond Hills, Georgia. Eventually she made her way back to New York and at the age of 17 a recording of Blige singing karaoke booth came to the attention of Uptown Records, the company put her under contract immediately. Blige would go on to be known as the Queen Of Hip Hop Soul.
